Meet The Staff
Carmen Walker Carmen Walker, originally from Chambersburg,
PA, entered the optical field
while still in high school, working for family friends at Chambersburg Optical.
After leaving Chambersburg, she gained experience in Maryland
and in the Harrisburg
area, managing larger optical dispensaries and becoming skilled in the trade of
Lab Technician, which is the actual fabrication of eyeglasses. She is also
certified by the American Board of Opticianry.For more than four years, Carmen operated a wholesale optical laboratory in Mechanicsburg, where she resides with her husband Duane and their two children, Jennifer and James. During this time, she manufactured eyeglasses for retail sale and dispensed safety glasses to local industries. Becoming aware through family and friends of the need for a friendly, personalized service when selecting and purchasing eyewear, she decided to open Hampden Optical in 1996. Ten years and four locations later she operates Central PA's most chic optical boutique, inspired and designed by Tura frame rep Brian Stewart. The inviting and warm, friendly atmosphere along with great camaraderie among staff will make your visit most enjoyable. Dr. Anne Mayer Dr. Anne Mayer was born and raised in Charleroi,
PA, which is in southwestern Pennsylvania
near Pittsburgh.
From 1982 to 1985, she did her undergraduate studies at Washington
and Jefferson College, majoring in Biology/Pre-Optometry
3-4 Program. Her Graduate Studies were completed at Pennsylvania College of
Optometry in 1985 through 1989.She received Clinical Honors during her internships in 1989 at: Pennsylvania College of Optometry, Philadelphia, PA, Dale DeConcilus, O.D. Canonsburg, PA and Joseph Udavari, O.D. Coraopolis, PA. Her specialties of practice are: general optometry, contact lenses, co-manages cataract follow-up and LASIK follow-up with local surgeons. Dr. Mayer resides in Mechanicsburg with her two children: Marrisa and Christopher. She enjoys spending time with her children and working out at the Momentum Fitness Center in her spare time. |
Dr. Michelle Thomas Dr. Michelle Smith Thomas is a native of Pennsylvania,
born and raised in Elk
County PA.
She did her undergraduate work at Gannon
University in Erie
and completed her Graduate work at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia, graduating
with the honors in 1992. During the course of her training, she specialized in
general optometric practice and has a special interest in difficult to fit
contact lens cases.Dr. Thomas has been associated with Hampden Optical since 2000 and enjoys the "personal touch" that private practice optometry allows. She currently resides in Camp Hill with her daughter, Kaili. In her free time, she enjoys reading a good novel or seeing a good movie. |
Rosemary Cummings Keel
Rosemary Cummings Keel has been an optician for over 25 years. She is ABO
certified and began learning the optical trade while working with her father,
Gayle Cummings, owner of Cummings Dispensing Opticians. They had two offices,
one on Second Street
in Harrisburg
and the other in the office of V. Eugene Kilmore, Jr. MD, in Mechanicsburg.Rose lives in Mechanicsburg with her husband Steve and her two wonderful children, Brianne and Patrick. Her hobbies are painting, reading, and taking her dogs for walks. Always a friendly and caring person, Rose brings to Hampden Optical the experience and knowledge needed to fit even the most intricate prescription. She looks forward to meeting you, and showing you what fit and fashion are when you "Accessor-Eyez" your eyes at Hampden Optical! |
Jennifer Whittington
Jennifer has been an integral part of Hampden Optical since 2004. She holds a bachelorŐs degree in Management from Penn State University and is currently our Office Manager. Jen has gained a wealth of experience since joining our staff and has become well versed in optical knowledge. Her strong sense of fashion enables her to assist both men and women in selecting frames that suit their face shapes, as well as their personalities. Jen is also the buyer of our ever-growing selection of unique eyewear.In her spare time, Jen enjoys spending time with her husband, Jeff, shopping, golfing, going to Penn State football games and is a Volkswagen enthusiast. |
Mary Ellen LuchettiMary Ellen joined the Hampden Optical staff in 2003 as our receptionist. She will usually be the first friendly face to greet you, or the first pleasant voice you hear on the phone.Mary Ellen is a graduate of Bloomsburg University. Her and her husband, Jon, have been married for 23 years and have three wonderful sons: Tim, Nick and Jeff. Her oldest son, Tim, attends Notre Dame University, hence her passion for Notre Dame football. In her spare time, Mary Ellen enjoys photography and likes to travel. |
